Is that a problem - most resolutions are set at 1024 nowadays.

But it also seems slightly liquid - so I'm not too sure.

it was liquid in 2 dimensions, but then I clamped it to 1024 and only vertically liquid to try and sort out some IE bugs. No luck yet.

I tried your float method too, problem is it doesn't allow for transparency. Which we need because our background is not a flat colour.
