So I am making a project here where I have to animate a car driving around. I was thinking of making a line path and then having all the different parts (ie body of car and cylinder wheels (doesnt have to be to comlicated lol)) follow that path. But when I put more than 1 object on the path it doesnt animate the 2nd object.

Is there a way to get this to work with multiple objects on one line path or am I going to have to use keyframes for each part and painstakingly make the wheels line up with the body each time.

Put a dummy on the path. Then link all of the objects to that dummy AFTER the dummy is moving the way you like it to.
I'm sure you already know what the linking tool is right?

Also, it might be easier just to key frame the car than to use path constraint. You'll have a lot more power and can add all sorts of small details into your animation.

If you really want to push it, download the free mad car plugin. It lets you drive your car around like in a video game and gives you some what realistic physics.

Thanks, for the reply.

First off, this is the first time I am using a dummy and its underneath the helpers tab right? Well when I linked the car to the dummy the car wasnt following the dummy at all it was just staying still.

I'll give the mad car plugin a try and see how that works out. And if worse comes to worst, I shall just go key frame by key frame.

Dummies are one of those real basic things you should know how to use. I recommend staying away from third party pluggins and try to get the job done the old fashion way by using proprietary functions. This will make you much stronger.

Method1
Press the link constraint icon. The link constraint works by dragging. select a group of objects. Then (LEFT) click on them and hold. Drag your cursor to the desired parent object.

Method2
Press the link constraint icon. Select your objects. Press H. Select the desired parent object.

One last question and I think I will be alright for this project. I decided that I would go with using key frames in this animation, it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. However I got a (well I think it is anyways) simple problem that I don't know how to fix. Since my wheels (which are just cylinders) are seperate from the car I thought I could move the wheels while the car makes its turns but the wheels seem to be turning to early for my liking from where I set the keyframe for them to actually begin their turn. If someone can help me with this and suggest a way to get it to only turn when I want them to I would appreciate it.

This is how I would do it.

1)Link all the car objects to a dummy.

2)Animate the dummy driving around.

3)Go back and animate what the car wheels are doing.

For the wheel rotation I would simply put them on a an animation loop. This means you animate them rotating on the local Z axis and it continues the motion. [Link to img34.imageshack.us]
