Okay, So I have never in my life touched anything that could possibly resemble a 3d program whatsoever. But, I was wondering if there are any programs that could easily create 3d water splashing for a piece im working on. Basically there are things I just cant do with a camera and photoshop, using real water is far too unpredictable and I could spend all day in the studio trying to get something and never get it.

Or if thats too hard, whos willing to colaborate?

hm maybe RealFlow, Houdin, Maya and even 3ds max, but i would go for RealFlow on that one, don't know about maya but in max you'll would have a lot of problems making the water spash. And i believe that Houdini has some amazing dynamics and fluid simulation.

Yeh, realflow would probably do it the best. Matt's had some experience with it, you should see if he can help. (Sorry to dob you in Matt wink.gif )

Realflow realflow and...ummm..oh yes, Realflow!

Steve and Altopais are right, Realflow is by far means the best thing you could use.

Yeah for splashing water theres no real contest but its no walk in the park learning realflow. Ive done some simple stuff and its not that easy to get it to do specific stuff. Its all about getting forces just right to interact with the particles and sort of steer them into the effect you need. I'd be happy to have a crack at something simple but Matt has been using it quite extensively I believe.

Realflow is made of bad voodoo. It is the most tempermental program I have ever used. It took me months to get the hang of it.

If you want, you could send me a description of what you need? As after you do the simulation you'll also need to render it in 3d.

Is it? I'm not sure. I don't know a hell of a lot about it, I just though it might be easier to use than realflow.

or just add a noise modifier and animate the seed/phase. along with a nice shiny water-like material.
