Hello,

I am a complete novice to 3DS Max, I am considering enrolling on a corrispondance course to study 3D Animation. I have upgraded my PC, but the course staits that version 8 only works on Windows XP, well my new PC is installed with Windows Vista, can I use version 8????

Can anybody help???

Also can anybody recommend the best 3DS Max guide book, there are so many , I am scared and confused !!!!!

You need the version called 3dsmax 2008 to run on Vista. I believe there is a 2009 version out now aswell but I havent tried it yet. 2008 added a few small extras but was mainly released to work with vista. I'd recommend getting a copy of XP running if you can, at least as a dual boot. Theres still lots of software that won't work properly with Vista. As far as books go I think grabbing one of the "3dsmax bible" type books can be usefull but the max reference that comes with the software was almost the most valuable resource I had when starting out. Its very well written documentation and you can search for almost any procedure you can think of. Its so much better than the Maya reference (which I am learning at the mo). I used to print chunks of the max ref out and read it on the train for ideas on what to cover next.

Thanks Tyson, I'll try to get XP as a dual boot on my PC, and I'll take a look at the £DSmax bible book.

Yep, if you have vista, lose it. Or else dual boot XP. You'll probably end up with faster renders in XP anyway (less RAM being hogged).

hey chris... u can get some books on 3ds max on Scribd.com.....just search there "3ds max" and u'll get a list of pdf books for download.
