I'm not sure what you mean?. I tried installing max 9 on a vista machine and had many problems. I think max 2008 or (max 10) was released mainly to work properly on vista machines and now theres max 2009 too. I'd just stick with XP. I use max 8 at work because it works with all my plugins smile.gif.

Do this with all associated executables with max.

ok are we talking about max "9" or max 2009?? (I wish they just called them max 10 and max 11). When I tried to install max 9, (that is the ninth version of max) on a friends brand new vista desktop. it didnt work so we installed the max 2008 demo and that worked perfectly. The only thing I could think would be at fault for the problems you listed in the first post is a video card driver issue.

I had some weird stuff with my dell laptop's mobile geforce card. When I updated the drivers to the newest forceware ones. it crashed repeatedly in a similar way when I was playing bioshock so I had to go back and get the dell driver that came with my system and then it worked again.

Sometimes the "Newest" video drivers are not always helpful, I've had to download older drivers numerous times to get things working, try going backwards one version BEFORE the latest drivers. Usually brand new drivers aren't fully tested by the community, where one version earlier has had all issues resolved.

This thread is a huge miscommunication, due to poor literary descriptions.
-Sanwal, please capture the problem and upload to a server. If it's a render error people will solve it instantaneously once the problem is clear.

Again. Sanwal [RECORD PROBLEM TO = VIDEO] or [UPLOAD SCREENSHOTS]

You can do it!! octo.gif

High res screen shots. Pretend you're filing a report or preparing a presentation.
it would make this go faster and easier.

Maybe try switching to the software display mode, instead of the OpenGL, I usually use the Direct3D setting, as it tends to work on more computers. I've got Max 9 on a 32-bit Vista machine, but alas not Vray. I had a heck of a time to get it working semi-properly, I have wheel-mouse scrolling problems in the modifier drop-down, but it's almost usable. It renders just fine with Mental Ray, I'll have to see if I can get Vray working on it.

Oops maybe I should read better.... "Software display mode also buggy"

Well you could always downgrade your Vista machine back to XP, that "should" fix most things, stupid Vista! hehe

Out of all the possible causes there I'd say it's probably caused by the videocard. But I've had huge problems with Nvidia recently so I'm probably a bit biased.
