Hello!

I'm a 2D animator teaching myself 3ds Max for character animation.

I've downloaded this 'Max' rig:
[Link to www.bockstyre.com]

It's the one for 3ds Max for sure, I just can't remember where I downloaded it from, but anyway, its that one.

I'm able to move all of the facial controls very well all except the eyelids. When I grab one with the rotation tool, they only seem to want to rotate sideways instead of up and down. I've tried everything within my knowledge of the program to get them to go up and down instead of sideways, which is pretty useless to me at this point.

If anyone could help me out here I would appreciate it very much!
thanks

corey

you should probably check the constraints, on hiearchy panel if i'm not mistaken, you can set up your movement and rotation to rotate only on desired axes.
i'm not into rigging, so that's the first thing that crosses my mind.

Altopais, I went into the hierarchy panel and clicked "Affect Pivot Only" under "Adjust Pivot"

This is giving me the up and down movement I was looking for.

THANK YOU.

Is this going to affect my animation any? Do you know what clicking this really means?

Thanks so much

I wouldnt go animating the pivot point. If you select the dummy object labelled "eye brow control" in the facial animation setup then look in the modify panel there is a large amount of eye lid and eyebrow controls to play with.

Thanks.

There doesn't seem to be any eye lid control in the panel.

And now for some reason it won't let me select anything. I'm also having a problem where I can't click on or move the toes.

I'm just very lost I should probably get a book, haha.

Thanks for the help

yeah it took me a bit of looking to notice the controls too. When you first open the scene the face rig is on the left. On the lower right there are two eye brow dummy objects. Select one then on the top right of the max interface click the modify tab which is the second tab along from left to right.
The attributes on the dummy are custom attributes that have been added to an attribute holder on top of the dummy.
