You can customise nearly every keyboard shortcut in the customise menu. then save it and load it up on another machine. Especially for editable poly modelling I have totally rewritten the keyboard shortcuts and take the file with me to new jobs etc...

Yes you can, thats pretty much what I am running at the moment (upgrading this weekend finally) on max 8. And from what I've heard max 9 runs faster than 7 on the same hardware anyway.

Yeh, those specs should be fine. The 8500 GT isn't the quickest card but from my experience it's pretty damn stable. Much more stable than the turd I'm using at the moment.

I just upgraded mine to a 9600 GT, apparently its a stripped back 8800. Seems to be kickin ass for me at the moment. 80 FPS on COD4 maxed out.

I've got no arguments that the 8800gtx performs quite well so I imagine the 9600 GT would be good, it's just that it's really unstable. Check these crashes:
