Greetings,

recently i started migration from XSI to 3ds MAX, and theres a few things i got used to in XSI and i would like to know how to access them in 3ds MAX.

1, Is there any way to bookmark a perspective viewport position ? In XSI you would just save the position memo and then you recalled the original position whenever you moved your view. I dont mean camera, just a perspective view.

2, I made a cube and then add some edge loops and made some corners of the object smoother. Then i removed some edge loops using backspace key so the corner was hard again, but its shading remained soft. How do i solve it. In XSI there was a simple function to reset the shading.

3, Is there any way to save the current render to compare it with following one ? Like in Maya where you have the scroll bar at the bottom of the render window and you can scroll between previous renders you saved to compare or XSI where you just save a memo ?

Thank you for your answers.

I can relate. Max to maya is pretty frustrating. It's like jumping in a car and having
Your gears all mixed up and the peddles swapped from left to right.
Then when u get used to it the same happens when you swap back.
To answer your questions.

1. No you can't save perspective views. You have to hit ctrl + c to create a camera from the perspective view. Then hit c to go to different cameras.

2. In editable poly you can create smooth groups or remove them. With polygon subobject selected it's under polygon properties. Hit clear all to get faceted shading. Autosmooth by a threshold or add smoothing groups with the numbered buttons. You can also use the smooth modifier. Not to be confused with turbosmooth or meshsmooth which are for subdivision smoothing.

3. In the rendered frame window click the second icon from the left to clone the view. Then render again.
You can also load rendered files into the ram player a and b channels to interactively slide between images.
