im sure everyone has either come across this problem but if not then im a fool.

i've modelled a character and am rigging him, its all done apart from the head where the mesh does not follow the bone (i'm using a biped with physique on the mesh) when i move the head, the chin gets left behind. like it's weight on the chin is low, i can get a screen grab if you dont know what i'm talking about

it's irritating because i cant move the guys head without it getting mis-shapen,
please help.

I haven't had a lot of opportunities to use bipeds or the bone system, but have you adjusted your envelopes. Anytime that has happened to me, I had to enlarge the envelope to encompass the mesh that was needed. Sorry if this doesn't help.

Yeah I dont have much experience with rigging either, but i recall envelope sizes are a source of most problems in rigging.

I'm not a master with rigging and when I rig I tend to use bones. I think it is just a matter getting your weights right and unfortunately that can take some time.

Definately sounds like an envelope issue. That said, I have had problems in the past with biped chins not properly moving with the head not matter how large you envelopes are.
