I know, if you render it as a QuickTime .mov, you can select the Million + colors and that will include the alpha channels, so when you take it into Adobe Premier or After Effects, it will remove the environment. I find it best to leave the environment black.

No problem.. It's something I always wanted to learn and I found out when I joined the production crew at church. I didn't realize is was so easy.

GIF can only handle up to 8-bit indexed colour, so 256 different colours.

JPEG is 24-bit, so it can have millions of colours.

Then you have 32-bit formats like png or tga, which have the same 24-bit colour values like jpeg but also an 8-bit alpha channel.

well said, nice and concise, in millions of colours "plus", the plus is the alpha channel. and "interlacing" hasnt got anything to do with transparency.

ok .. already tried converting one the background is not transparent anymore.. it applies the original color (black background) if you want to check heres the link:

Like tyson said, use image sequences, then use PNG, TGA or any other 32bit format.

I'm unsure why using an image sequence is such an issue. there are so many benefits its crazy to render everything to movie files.
in premier just check the box "sequence" when you import and it treats it the same way as a movie file anyway.

are you sure their's a checkbox for sequence in premiere?? haven't noticed any .. i'mma check it again.. thx..

In premier its called "numbered stills" you're sequence needs to be numbered (which it should be anyway) something like "my_animation.0000.tga" put two dots ater the file name in max, like "my_animation..tga" and max will put the numbers in for you. In premier pick the first image and check the box, and there you go..

Its ok to ask questions man, but its true, you should just try it first. its right there at the bottom of the import dialogue box. where you would expect it to be right ???
