Hi folks,

I modelled for an online RPG a Transformer. It´s a G1 Tranformer, an Autobot and because of that it´s made very simple. I know there are still a few corners and edges in need of work but this is my level if I work fast:

I made the car of a box and the robot of parts of the car. It´s also my first try to deal with lights. I´d like to hear what you think about it.

What you are trying to do here is pretty complex, I would seriously recommend that you maybe just try modeling a realistic car and learning how to light it and render it. Find a good car modeling tute and crank something out. smile.gif

Yes, I know that it´s complex but I´m fascinated by Transformers and to be honest that´s the only reason why I dedicated my self to 3D Modelling. I want to learn that and I know that it will take much time untill I got as good as those people who made the Transformers movie.

Ok well if you all you want to do is model transformers then go ahead, but what I said is still valid. You can't expect to become a good 3d artist unless you practice modeling a large range of objects.

Yeh, the models looks pretty good from here. If you spent a little bit more time on it you could get them looking better though. I think the front of the car is a bit washed out and could be darkened a bit. Also there don't appear to be any shadows on the ground so any sense of realism is lost there. It's a good start but it needs more work. You mentioned you haven't done much lighting, have you done much work with materials?

The carpaint is this Shellac-material I asked for earlier. May be I made it to reflective that could explain why the front looks so extreme white cause a spot light is directly headed on it. I don´t have much idea from lightning that´s why can´t use it in such an advanced matter but I´ll be working on it. For the glass I used just the reflect-map with raytrace. As I did for the chrome-parts (rims and the sword). The shadow is indeed a part that tingles me, too.

Are your lights casting shadows?

Yes, I think so. There was a slight shadow on the ground but it vanished when I applied the texture. Perhabs it was not strong enough

I played a little around the lights and the carpaint material. The ground also a new mirroring material.

That's looking better but I think you could push it further. Head over to the tutorials section and watch Tyson's Scanline Reflection tutorial. That should give you some ideas on lighting and environment setup.

I´ve been thruogh your suggested tutorial and its amazing what some lights can do to a scene. Here are my results basing on this tutorial.

Well done. It's more of a finished piece now rather than just a test render. Just one suggestion I'd make is to maybe give a bit more colour to the background. It seems a bit lifeless, maybe try a deep red or something like that.
