I've decided today that I want to render a short movie, maybe 5 mins long of the aircraft that I am making. I did a test run today that runs about 33 seconds, just to show the operation of the wings. Mind you now, I haven't made any landing gear as of yet and the scene is not set... This is only a demonstration of how the wings operate and engine rev-up. I do have one question though and maybe it would be just as simple as turning "GI" off in VRay, but as you watch the animation, you'll see white flicker "squares" flashing. I'm not sure what is causing it, but I noticed when I rendered my final artwork of this, I had black squares in the smoke. Any suggestions on that?

Anyway, check it out at my site and give me any thought you might have before I start rendering more.. For now, I'm just going to concentrate on making the landing gear so I can get a good simulation of a vertical takeoff. And yes, as always, there will be particle flow (Dust flying off of the ground on take off).

Thanks

Rick

Nice man I like the way the wings fold out very nice design. I would be nice to see it on a futuristic air field.

Looks like fun. If I were you, I would simply render the smoke in a different pass using render settings better suited for the job. That would give you less trouble and a better render time.

what do you mean, in a different pass? You know, I've been using max for a while now and I haven't done much animation outside of particle flow.

What I meant to say way, render the smoke separately, then composite in premiere, aftereffects, or some other decent video editing app.

You'll have to set your aircraft to be a matte object in your vray properties otherwise it won't look right.

I render a longer animation of the aircraft. Let me know what you think...

I don't think I got the sound sync'd up quite right on this animation, but give me your opinion.

Looks great. Maybe add a weak noise controller just so it looks like it's getting blown round a bit.

That's a cool idea.. You do mean to the camera correct?

Nah, In your track view select your camera. Underneath Camera01 (or whatever it's called) right click"position" which is under "transform" and go to assign controller. Select position list. A slot named available will appear underneath. Right click that and assign controller again, but this time select nois controller. You'll have to muck around with frequency and strenght until it looks right. Using the position list controller first will enable you to keep the animation you've already done. If you just add a noise controller you'll lose all that hand animation.
