Super Mario 64 - THE defining 3d platformer.
Portal - Great gameplay with awesome story humour.
Age of Empires series.

Race Driver 3 & GRID - mainly because its so hilarious to see VarnishedOtter completely destroy his car in a crash within the first three laps EVERY RACE.

Age of empires, Zelda, Diablo 2, Sonic, super mario, Starcraft/war craft, smash bro's, Mario cart, Final fantasy (loved 7, 8 and 10) are all great

Tomb raider for PS was great
Duke Nukem 64 (lol)
Quest (think thats right prob the first RPG I ever played, only remember the main character had a cowlick and a quarter staff)
pokemon was everywhere back when it was red/blue/yellow for gameboy/color
Metal gear solid was pretty amazing
Street Fighter/Tekken/Mortal combat remain the best of their class imo
Twisted Metal was pretty fun too
GTA
Gothic
Dynasty Warriors is addictive for 2 player
Grand tarismo is pretty cool
Tenchu the wrath of heaven is cool
Way of the Samurai tho short has an amazing combat system.
I really got into this mmorpg called Linage 2 before it got over run by AI systems and WoW came out.
Right now I play Bad Company and Civilization beyond the sword

Sonic doesn't work in a 3d environment, because of the speed of play its impossible to control with the 3rd axis. Super Mario 64 nailed the 3d platformer.

There are far too many games that I have loved during the course of my sad and pathetic life so I will just list the most recent that have changed the way I view games for the better.

Oblivion: in retrospect it is looks like a turd, handles like a turd, and animates like a turd, however it changed open world rpg's for me. Unfortunately fallout 3 ruined them.
World of Warcraft: Everything about this game was amazing, aside from the gameplay. It left me wondering why they hell do I like this so much...
COD4: A wonderful innovation for FPS games, I was blown away when I finally gave in and played it.
Portal: I let go a sigh of relief when I played this, finally some originality in the world.
Mass Effect: An action/rpg that works?

Pretty much any 2d Lucasarts adventure game, I can't think of a bad one. Also on the topic of Lucasarts, the Xwing games were very awesome, the first and the last ones being the best. If another were to be released I would explode with joy (assuming it wouldn't be a crappy dumbed down version that can be played using 2 buttons.) Half Life 2 series are all good, hopefully episode 3 comes out at some stage. I would have to say my favourite storyline/atmosphere would be Max Payne 2.

What a retro thread

My favs are as follows (limited to less than 10 and in no order)

Total Annihalation (PC game, C&C style gameplay using robots)
Sonic 3 (megadrive - the bonus levels with the giant coins still amazing me with their 3d gfx in a megadrive )
Pokemon Red (gameboy - still playing it now, even though I have no interest in Pokemon - just has HOURS of gameplay)
Zelda, Links Awakening (gameboy - same reason as above, except as its Zelda, I have a MASSIVE interest in the storyline and characters )
Zelda and the phantom Hourglass (DS - LOVE it, best game on DS I have ever played)
Proff Layton and the curious Village (DS - a VERY close 2nd to Zelda)
COD4 (and COD5 for the zombie nazi mode)
Portal / HL2 series of games (PC - amazing graphics, about 4 years waiting for HL2 to come out, and WAS NOT dissapionted at all)
Little Big Planet (PS3 - cant describe how amazingly fun it is to play with 4 people (all friends) on a nice big 40" TV )

i just downloaded castlevania symphony of the night of the playstation network, it was originally on playsation 1. this game is amazing, its a side scroller but its also an rpg with all the elements of an rpg i love, like leveling up new powers, new skills and most of all side quests and secrets. which this game has in abundance. i'm half way through and am psyched to continue playing which is rare these days. its becoming one of my fav games.
