Hi everyone,

I'm using Vray rendering for an animation that I have to do. I am wondering if anyone knows about a material that can make an object render as an alpha.

I have a load of bushes and trees that I need to render separately, so that later on I can add them in compositing to the site that I rendered earlier. The thing is that if I render them alone I'm going to have the roots and bottom halves that I don't need (making the bushes seem like they are hovering over the site).

Is there any advice on how I can go about this? My last resort is to render each section of the ground as a group with the corresponding bushes n trees, but that would take a lot of time to render and my deadline is on Tuesday.

What I'm looking for is a material or an object setting that can enable me to render a plane with the bushes and have the plane be an alpha that cuts the bottom halves of the bushes and trees...

Is this possible?

As a quick and dirty (real dirty) solution, you could attach all the trees together and boolean with a box.

Hmm.. that just might work, thnx! Ill keep it in mind (^^)

The thing is that I have a huge library of plants that are already in Vray proxy and they are non editable, It'll take a while to do each one and replace the proxy (allthough I know that once you change the host, the childs will change too). By now I dont know what's quicker compositing tricks or model editing. Hahaha!

Thanks a lot though!

Right click your plane and go to vray properties. You've got your matte properties there so you can set your object to be matte and change the aplha contribution etc. That should give you what you want.
