I can't tell but are the trees just opacity mapped plains or are they models?

Models, I have a plug.. Onix Tree, and made the textures in Photoshop.

I work with vray so, opacity mapped trees arent suggested for animations or stills, they tend to lag longer in the rendering than actual fisical models... I wish though, it wouldve made my life a little easier.
