Hallo there. I have 3Ds Max 9.

For a company I was asked to create an animation of a biped character. The figure has all physics and skin in the right setting already and works fine.

The storyboard is the following:
The man moonwalks in stops in the middle of the screen and makes a presentating pose while in the background the company logo appears. A sounds is played and ends abruptly and the man turns around to the logo.
He notices that it is written wrong and goes there to take on letter, throw it into the air and the letter comes down and jumps into the right position.
The man makes a "one moment please" pose and pushes the logo away (just with his arms, the body stays at the place). The logo disappears and the man now walks normally to the other side of the screen (left side) and makes some poses to present the logo which returns with the right melody.

Now the problem:
First I wanted to create footsteps and save them to use them in the "motion flow" later. The problem is, that I can't save any motions, because my Max always dies when I save as .bip. I yet tried to find bip that may work, but none were satisfying.

To move on I am not completely which other techniques would be good to combine here.

I hope you can help me. Thanks for your time.

At the risk of sounding like a moronic jerk, you're not breaking an NDA are you?

Nono I am not. Because the company asked me to search for help in forums. Sounds weird I know...but I also never had to work with Max in animation without choice.

To be honest I don't really like using character studio unless I'm using motion capture. I've used it extensively before and had very few issues with crashing when I load and save bip files but the general workflow is very cumbersome. Personally I would animate this by hand and forget messing with saving things out and using motion flow.

So there really is someone using Max for animation.

Thanks for your advice.
I already started animating by hand and auto key of course. It takes much time I have to say.

For future projects I highly recommend CAT the softimage plugin for max. it works very nicely and rigging is a dream with it. and it has motioncapture support and prefab walk cycles etc..

I googled CAT and wow...looks good but that is more than expensive...could have bought Maya instead lol

the demo works well, you just have limited saves. but I guess its still not cool to use it for work huh. damn that little ethical cherub on my left shoulder.

Well you don't need to save separate motions for this. You could key frame the entire thing.
