Hey all,
I see no one on this forum is talking about the new purchase of Softimage by Autodesk?!

Whats everyone's thoughts... I'm secretly (well not all more, lol) all for autodesk (the maker of my fav package MAX) taking over everyone else, coz it means Max gets the best of all the others.. HAHA!

I laugh the next thing we find out, is that they have bought Adobe... what a scandal that would be!!! Hehe!!

Yea I mean they have 2 ways to dealing with this. They either make a software package that combines the lot. or they sell them all individually. My belief is that if there is competition then companies are forced to make better products. Hence why Photoshop seems not to have changed much since ... well since Photoshop 4 haha.

I think they just want to own it all and reap the rewards I don't think autodesk are interested in changing the industry They just run around and buy everything up and let the original developers keep working.

Also im not sure you know this but max was the creation of a company called discreet and has since been bought out just like maya and now softimage.

Yeah, that's definitely true... they are going around buying everyone else's tech and not spending time developing their own, and pushing the industry!!

At some point they are gonna have to start developing their own stuff, or we're all just gonna stagnate...

I am a big proponent of getting more seamless data transfer between 3D apps, so that's a pro for everything being in house.

Yeh, I did see this and my first thought was that they seem to be eating everyone around them. I don't think it's neccesarily a good thing if autodesk is going to own all the major 3d packages in a few years time. Lack of competition is bad for the consumer.
