So, i've worked my way through several of the 'introduction to modelling' tutorials on max and i've learnt quite a lot in the last few days although i must say i'm still boggled and the shear amount of stuff there is to learn.

anyway, i'm trying to model a logo i've made into a 3D shape and was wondering the best way to do as the ones i've tried haven't been sucessful.

the shape i'm aiming for is like a bead of water on a solid surface, i'e an unconventional shape made 3d.

i was wondering if anyone could suggest how they would go about this, then i might see if can figuere it out myself.

thanks a million in advance

Try applying the melt modifier to a sphere and adjust the settings until you get what you want, you can also scale down on the Z axis to add more of a squashed look.

Be sure to post some pics of your progress in the 3D Wips section. smile.gif

Or you can use the squash and stretch tool on a sphere.

so, i've just spent a few moments playing with the squash and stretch and melt tools, and wow, there's some great effects there.

basically i've been able to model a round droplet of water, and then with the bend tool i can put a more difined shape to it... however the effect i'm really looking for is that of making it concaved?

the image below is part of my logo that i'm trying to 3D-ize. and the shapes that are beside the S are the ones i'm trying to make like water droplets on a surface.

any more ideas... this must seem basic to many of you, but i really appreciate the pointers.

Probably try creating with splines and then extruding. Then see what your melt/stretch etc mods do.

Or you could start with a sphere, convert to editable poly and move vertices around with the soft selection turned on. There are usually many ways to do something.

thanks for the advice steve and vanishedotter, i haven't had a chance to experiment on account of being stuck in the Pakistani desert for the last week... however i've a few free moments now so will get cracking on what you suggest.

many thanks, and i'll let you know how i get on.
