Avid fans of the TV show LOST may recognize this as the same plane as Oceanic Flight 815, the ill fated airliner that crashed on a mysterious island in the South Pacific while in route to Los Angeles from Australia.

Right now I'm working on adding detail to the wings and fins. It seems like every part I start working on is a major project in itself.
As usual I can't resist appling some materials before I finish modeling. tongue.gif I will eventually apply the Oceanic paint scheme.

I find it really hard to do an entire model without diving into the materials to see how it is really going to look. Awesome looking model Chris. Can't wait to see it finished.

JackTheFunk got me thinking about doing an aircraft with his F-22, then I started thinking about your Jet Powered "Something" Project. Looking at your work on that sealed the deal and I had to do a big turbine.

I thouuuuuught Altopais was going to do a plane too but......I guess not. wink.gif

We need more entries in the crap product challenge first. If you're keen, post it in the challenge suggestion section so we don't forget.

I was only excepting it as an unofficial, non organized, multiple thread, take off your glove and smack me in the face type challenge.

I'm having major problems with the wings. I decided to put them aside for a bit and work on the landing gear.

Hahaha thanks Rick...but here's what may be the sad truth.......[Link to i150.photobucket.com]

desade, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the model. I'd like to do something creepy strange or animate the crash, without being overly ambitious.
Any ideas? Do you watch the show?

I'm having problems finding good reference images for the stuff behind the wheels as in image 5. There are a shiton of parts back there! In the only reference image I have of that area, it looks like the brake cylinders go straight into the brake rotor.

it'd be really cool if you could animate the crash, i'd love to see that, although it'd be pretty tough to figure out the physics of it....
if you can get the exact boeing 777 specifications, i'm sure you'd be able to use reactor for it....
anyway was searching for references of the wheel, couldn't find any, but did come up with this site....check it out it might help

350,000,000 (350 million) triangles!!!! My model will be a crumby low poly piece of crap compared to that. I'm at 573,841 polys.

Thanks for the link man, that helped. It actually helped with the cockpit more than anything else. I knew something wasn't right about my cockpit, the model on that site makes it easier to see how it should be. It's funny, my cockpit windows line up with the blueprints in all three views and I have a ton of reference images, but the high res image on that site is the only thing I've seen that shows clearly how the front of the plane is shaped. It's hard for me to "see" how things are shaped in real pictures sometimes.
It's also funny that when you give a plane like this a glance, you think, hey it's a cylinder with a rounded cone on the end. When you really look at it, there are so many subtle shapes, contours and lines, it's far from just a tube.

I found some more reference images for behind the wheels details. They are not 777 but they give me an idea of whats going on back there. It makes the 777 images I have of that area make more sense.

The "crash" would basically only consist of the plane breaking into three pieces while in mid-air. It probably wouldn't be too hard to fake that. On the show the only part of the plane we ever see come to earth is the tail section, it lands in the water. I think that would be beyond my ability.

Thanks everybody for the input so far.

You should sim the crash in RF.

Great detail so far, I think you could get a nice photorealistic render going without too much hassel. Good luck with whatever you decide to do with it.
