Hi, new to this forum and also 3dsMax. Just wondering how to do the bone structure on a horse to make him animate. I have a biped incorporated within the skin but Im having difficulty sizing the bones of the biped to the skin. Is this the best way to go?

Otherwise, simply getting into the nitty gritty of creating your own rigs is awesome. It also lets you rig it just how you want it with joints & constraints in all the right places.
First thing I notice on your screen shot is that your rear hip joint could do with moving up & back a little bit
