It's looking pretty good Jovanie. There's just something a little flat about the lighting. I think I want to see darker shadows and more over-bright areas. Generally when a camera takes a photo indoors you wouldn't be able to see the details outside that clearly (see this image: [Link to img2.timeinc.net] ). I like the light you've got coming in the door there, that's looking pretty good, but overall it just needs a bit more contrast I think.

that's really sweet model. i would recommend (as i always do haha), chamfer every visible edge by a small amount, just to brake that "infinite sharp angle" and let the light bounce off. It will be a small contribution that will add to realism and also, chamfered models look heavy, like they have real mass and everything.
As Steve said, you could place a skylight on the door and window just to add that flash of light that's coming from the outside.
With vray, you can use a simple vray light and make it a plane., place it outside and direct it inside, and some tweaking will be required grin.gif
That flash is much more easier accomplished with mental ray's skylight and daylight system.

It doesn't look like your windows are transmitting any light at all from the outsiden. I've worked mainly in mental ray and I think it's great for making interiors, but I haven't tried vray so I cannot compare them. In mental ray I would fix that scene by adding a sky portal to the window. It works mainly as the "plane light" as Altopais described. Mental ray also uses ambient occlusion which adds depth in the same manner (correct me anyone if I'm wrong) in what vray dirt seems to do.

If you want to check it out here's a link to a tutorial for you

sky light actually works a bit different, it's mainly a gatherer, it gathers light from light sources and redirect it, multiply it and so on...
I'll have to admit, nice, polished, shiny and clean interiors are easily made with mental ray, but old, deteriorating, dirty and so on it's much easier to do with vray, that's my opinion. And vray is much faster at calculating GI than mental ray. But mental ray with it's arch and design matts is just couple of clicks for nice shiny render...

i never used any kind of scripting with mental ray, and to be honest, this is the first time i heard that it has powerful scripting support.
I really don't know what's the fuss about interior render with mentl ray, it's as easy as it can be, all you have to do considering lighting, is place one direct spot light or daylight system outside, and place a skylight on every window and door that's looking out.
Turn FG and GI on, FG on medium for 2k ress and tweak your lights multiplier and exposure values (enviroment tab) to get the desired lighting.
Materials on the other hand are a bit different. As i mentioned before, if you want to create a spotless, clean and shiny interior, Mental Ray's Arch and Design and Architectural materials are all you'll ever need. Just choose a preset, leave the defaults and if you want place a bitmap texture in the diffuse.
You'll be suprised how easy it really is to achieve rather good / great renders with just a few render tweaks.

I'm currently working on tutorial on how i rendered my kitchen interior, render settings and few things on materials i used, i'll leave the modeling out if it as it's really not that hard to model it. It's about Mental Ray so i hope it will be of some use to you.

I haven't typed for a couple of days so i kinda got carried away grin.gif
Anyhow looking forward your updates.

You cannot define a render as one thing. you have really multiple ways of renders. for example, informational renders. these give information-like screenshots. everything is detailed but there are less shadows and textures. if you are going for a realistic render, you have to look and make things quite different. as Altopais says Mental Ray is good at clean interiors but I prefer Vray since it's more user friendly in my opinion smile.gif

Your render looks pretty nice but as Fredriku also mentiones you might want to check if you can really let those windows emit light smile.gif

Good job so far, and try to look at your material compositions wink.gif

I know the light is defuse however the image seems void of shadow, also I think the sky lights we brighten the room a lot more than they currently are. Other than that good model, good job.
