Im not sure if this is the right place to write this but when I downloaded cat to my max 2009, it shows up on the top menu bar beside the customize button but when you go into Create, Helpers, there is no CAT and thats what the tutorials call for. Anyone know how to fix this?

sounds like it didn't install correctly.
you might want to do a reinstall, and check your directories. if i remember right the last time I installed cat the installer defaults to the 3d studio max ini directory which is in a protect folder for licensing. but, you actually want to install the plug-in files in the program folders directory, so you have to give it different directories based on what its asking for during the installation. its been awhile or id give you exact locations to install too, but there are different folders on your drive which could cause confusion thanks to pirates. also cat has a funny license server so make sure you de-license before you try to install it again.
hope that helps.

CAT is asking for a license number when I open up the License Manager. Could this be blocking the full program? I thought the plugin was free, I didnt see anything about purchasing when I was downloading it.

Cat isnt free but the demo is fully functional with the limitation that each file you create can only be saved 20 times. I just turned off Autoback and tried to save at key moments in the process but it would be very frustrating if you have it all rigged with no saves left for your animation. If you work efficiently you could complete a project but it would obviously still be at your own risk to use it for a paid job.

I guess thats the idea, then you have to buy it to get the job done.

Plus, I downloaded the lastest version a few weeks ago and there was a version for max 9. I havent bothered upgrading to max 2008 or 2009 because I've got a handfull of max 9 only plugins that i couldnt live without.

I think somewhere the versions messed everything up. I downloaded max 9 and installed, got a error and then realized that there was a max 2009. So I installed that and it didnt error but it only has a few option under the CAT menu pull down. Could it be becasue I have a newer version that you and things are set up differently? Not sure whats happening.

I'm not sure whats happened but you should be able to uninstall it and try again and if that fails trackdown any files in the max directories that say CAT and delete them manually. I installed two versions and the second just went over the top without issue.
I guess you could have had it rigged with bones by now huh..

haha yeah probably. I was thinking since I only really need neck up on the horse as a bartender for the country bar website, maybe I will just focus on that area. Just have to figure out if I have to make teeth and how to animate his mouth and all that. I have read and watched more tutorials than this horse is worth haha. Thanks again Tyson... will try the reinstall
