Anybody know how to change the point of rotation on an object, instead of being the centre of the object I want to put the pivot somewhere else.

Its okay, I worked it out

Theres this button that lets you select the rotation point. The bottom one will put the gizmo in the centre of your viewport so you just move the veiwport around until its in the right spot.
