Hello everyone,

I am interested in taking a 2D image I have and converting that character into a 3D model that I can manipulate. Has anyone had any experience in such an endevor? I would appreciate any advice, or welcome anyone to take on this challenge and help me.

Looking forward to your replies...

Thanks

What software are you going to be using? And can we please see what the character looks like?

Well I guess that is the problem. I am not sure what to use and am looking for suggestions. Sure I can send the pic, but I do not see a way to attach or embed a photo into this forum.

Ok.. I get it. See below.

Thats probably a very hard object to make as your first.

3D Studio Max is very good, but tricky to learn as a first 3d program. Wings3D is a bit better but you need something else to render the models with.

If you get Max go through the tutorials included with it, theyre awesome.

Thanks bro,

I have played around in 3DSMax for years, but nothing serious. What do you think it would cost to have someone do it for me, or even better if someone would do it gratis? I use it in my logos, tutorials, etc. Would love to be able to manipulate it into other poses, emotions, angles, etc

I am good with Photoshop, but never learned the 3D apps.

If you are going to use it commercially I dont think you will convince anyone to do it for free. Its proabably a few hours work, so whatever their hourly rate is. I dont usually do 3D commercially so I have no idea how much people charge.

I doubt you'll get anyone to do it for free, it's a fairly complex model. You could try something like guru.com where you can get people to bid for it. Just set a budget you would like to stick to and you should get a few applications.
