Hi! I started in 3ds two moths ago, and I need some help with the modeling of a vw bus. I use blueprints as a guide but now I'm stuck with the modeling and I'm desperate for some help!
I started with a box and turned it into a editable poly (all the tutorials out there does that). My problem is that when i shift drag the vertices (copy them) they turn into isolated vertices. I want to get a plane, not hundreds of stupid unusable vertices! (look at the pic) Can anyone help me solve the problem? Thanks

Don't bother shift dragging vertices, just shift drag the edges.

I havent watched the whole thing but it looks like he is using the extrude edge method which is really one of the most usefull ways to model with editable poly. its not the only tool in there though. modelling this way is about using all the different tools to solve problems in the modelling process. things like edge loops and ring, extruding edges, extruding polygons, bevelling, chafering, inset, using create to draw new polygons etc etc.
this guys tutorial looks pretty good really, it shows you his method and how he approaches modelling the shapes. You may need to familiarise yourself with all the tools in editable poly a bit more to fully grasp what people are doing in this type of video. Start with something simple I recon.

chamfer and inset will be your best friends later when you start adding details.
There's a lot of ways to start a car model, if box modeling is not working for you, try splines, there's tons of car splines tutorials online which will get you started in right direction
