Just thought I'd post these and get a bit of feedback. I did them both today for a job interview I've got this week. I might post a few more as I do more. The rapidshare verisons are the same, just better quality. Comments/crits?

Not sure what's going on with that second youtube link when I press submit it seems to change. If you go to the shoo video just go to teh more from niff20 section and click on the punch video.

*Edit by Varnished*
Copy the second link into your browser and remove the space in the middle, the smilies were interfering.

Great job Steve. I like how you animated your car too. I've got to get more into animation. 5 years of doing max and the only real animation i've done is particle flow and reactor. One of these days...lol... Good luck on your work prospect.

Love the punch. I think he could anticipate slightly longer though. take a big windup, maybe size up the punching bag a bit too, he sort just stands there then suddenly punches, he needs to shift his weight a bit first. The gag will play out funnier with a longer leadup.

Try animating a jump. Jumps are a good test because they show weight and you can do lots of nice overlap with legs and arms etc... If you have the animators survival kit copy his jump formula. The Richard Williams master classes are coming out in a 16 dvd set soon.

I'd buy it if it wasnt over a grand eek..

I was actually about to do a jump wink.gif That's bloody expensive for 16 DVDs isn' it? It's probably worth it if you want to be a gun animator though.

yeah I guess so its gold info for any animator. but 1000 bucks is well over my budget.
maybe a car pool mentality is required.

haven't posted here for ages.....

anyways. I agree with tyson on the boxing animation, a bit more buildup to the punch would be good. I would have him jump from foot to foot or something. Make the character cocky make him punch the air a couple of times, make him look like he knows what he's doing, so when he is knocked down its all the more entertaining.

As for the shoo fly, i think the final pose looks uncomfortable. maybe he could relax a little now that the problem flys gone. Or....... you could take the animation further and have the fly come back land square on his face then he slaps himself just as the fly takes off. if you can always go for a laugh.
and it's a story that might bore you, but you don't have to listen, because I always knew it was going to be like that.

Great work as always! I need to MAKE myself practice character animation. I'd love to be able to do stuff half as good as this, but character animation always makes me, for lack of a better word, uncomfortable.
Your Mitsu looks great sitting still. but it looks awesome rolling.

I'll just go play with MadCar for now smile.gif

The good thing about madcar is that it's like playing, but you're actually working.
If anyone's interested, I had the "interview" (it was more of an informal chat) today, they liked it but don't actually have any work for me at the moment. Which is a bit crap. I'm hoping to get a few contracts out of them at some stage though.

Yep. With the keyboard, mouse or joystick. I think you can even use steering wheels.

Apparently it only works with max 9 is that right?

I only have max 6, 7 and 8 at my disposal.

It works with Max 2008 and 2009 as well, it might work with max 8. You could try.

It doesn't. It dies horribly, like a kitten clubbed to death by bigfoot.
