Hey everyone, I want to create a surface that has a bowl shaped 'dip' or 'buldge' in it. Like putting your thumb into blue tak. Or pressing a bowl into a sheet of aluminnium.

Can anyone make any suggestions?

Although a boolean does do this, it removes all the surface material leaving it hollow. Is there anyway to leave the 'skin' on something when you perform a boolean?

Thanks very much

You need to boolean using closed meshes, a box and and a sphere rather than a plane and a sphere for example.
Instead you could just use soft selection, choose a vertex and turn on soft selection in editable poly, change the falloff, pinch and bubble settings etc.. then move it down.
or you could use displacement.

Thanks very much, I solved the problem. I simply redrew the model, extruded it and then booleaned a sphere from it and it seemed to work very well.

Thanks again
