I am new to character creation, but I am fairly good at modeling. Anyways to teach myself, I made a semi detailed stick person for a game I that am working on anyways. First off I don't know weather to do biped or bones, and second I have a hard time with envelopes and skin weights. I was hoping that you guys might know of some good tutorials that can explain these things well. Oh and should i use biped or bones?

I will post a picture of it later if I can. It has no Feet or visible hands.

Biped is nice and quick, but rigging with bones gives you more control and flexibility in my opinion.
Not sure of any good tutorials of the top of my head, but a good start would be to make sure that you make the bones fit the shape of the body as best you can. Adjust the lengths, widths and fins so it fills out your model and this can ease some skinning headaches later on.

Recently I've been rigging a dragon model with bones. For quick rigs I would probably try and get it working well enough with envelopes but this rig needed some vertex weighting. what I did was kept the "weight all vertices" button checked then closed all the envelopes to zero. then with the harsh intitial weights from the weight all vertices feature I blended out the areas between bones by selecting several vertices at a time and setting a weight for them with the weight tool. I find its easier in the long run if you are methodical about vertex weighting and keep your mesh as low res as possible.

After I applied the bones, I added physic to the modifier list, and then i had almost no idea what to do for that. So If there is nothing I am supposed to do with the physic modifier do I use the Skin modifier?

You'll have to explain a bit better what you mean when you say that you can't connect them together.

I have problems with the envelopes. The mesh rips away from the bones and and some vertexes are left behind. This is after I edited the envelopes in the skin modifier.

That would only happen if the vertices aren't selected at all or are only partially selected. Make sure that all of the mesh you want to move with the bone is shaded in red when you are editing the envelopes and not orange or yellow.
