Good work doods, it looks good. I'm interested to see how the multiplayer will work. Not sure how hard it is to get games onto Steam or any other digital distribution sites but are you going to go down that path?[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
Thanks, Multiplayer is currently in the air. We can implement it, but if the game is not adopted quickly then there might be a lack of players early on and that could essentially ruin multilpayer. It happens a lot with even mainstream games. As for the distribution method, we hope to get it on steam. That has been the goal from the start. But we will also be selling it via our own site and probably a few other networks. We are looking at the 5-10 dollar mark. Have you got any video of the gameplay? I'd love to get a feel for it. it could help to generate buzz if you even mocked up a quick video that just showed what you have planned rather than actual gameplay.
It will come at some point soon, but that will happen once the sound has been finished and we move into beta. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
This game is completely linux friendly under Wine!
I'm still pretty bad at this game though, so I haven't played most of it yet.
edit:
The game crashed when I took that second screen shot. I don't think this is a CM problem. My instincts say it's a wine/gnome problem. Also, my gnome mouse replaced your game mouse when the screen shot was taken. That's weird.... oh well.
Lesson learned: don't take screen shots during game play under wine.
Thanks for that, kinda comforting to be able to see that it looks the same on Linux. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
I can't wait to find some time to really play the heck out of it.
edit: Also, I am running it on a really weak system: 1.6Ghz (single 32bit core) 1GB ram netbook with compiz running.
editedit: I've added some pictures for fun. Wine crashes each time I take a screen shot. I'm sure it's wine crashing and not your game. Pic 1 is gameplay. Pic 2 is alt+e, showing my desktops with the game on one. Pic 3 is alt+tab, except that the game is the only window on that desktop.
The game has really great feel. Very impressive work. unfortunately as Ive said im not very good at games like this so I havent got so far into it. I just got my girlfriend to play it now and she loves it. Is this the place to discuss feedback on the game or should we just talk about it privately? She had a few initial comments.
if you could pm me with any information that would be good Also if you could fill out the form when you have finished testing Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
Hi josh we can give you a beta, but you have to provide feedback etc. if you want in, pm me your email address Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
Its something that a lot of people say. I don't think the game is too hard. I just think that is requires people to invest the time to become good at it. Its an issue we are trying to resolve without reducing the difficulty of the game. We are currently considering a training mode where the game will be a lot slower and will give people time to adjust to the mechanics of the "real" game. Think about how easy tetris is on the first few levels. Maybe difficulty could increase as the score increased.
Anyway I've played this game several times now. My scores were worse the last time I played. I think this game is for certain types of people different to me. I like puzzle games but this one requires a skill don't have...
Yeah but some people do very well. There seems to be no middle ground. That's is hard to design for. We will defiantly look into this further as we want the game to be accessible, but at the same time not so easy it is boring for better players. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
The game is easy to play, but it's only made harder by the amount of cubes you can add within a time limit. The game is hard for me, but I don't feel that it's a question of intelligence; there's nothing to really solve. Just place matching colored cubes as fast as you possibly can. If you want it to be a hard it I would like it to be harder to figure out, not more tedious.
Being more tedious shouldn't equal being more fun. At least to me it's not.
Let's say the challenge was to subtract the most amount of mass by placing the fewest amount of cubes. That would be a more interesting challenge to me, because then I'd have to do some thinking. I could use my scroll wheel to switch between colors and have no real time limit. However, as the periodicity between placements decreases the higher the placement's score multiplier increases. Of course, the longer the periodicity the smaller the multiplier. ... just an idea.
It's still fun as it is, I'm just not fast enough to place the cubes.
Thanks for the feedback, the solution you are proposing is a good one but would be to game changing I think. There is a fair amount of strategy in the game. From the way you manage you power up's to building larger combos that in turn reduce more mass and make the game play slower. Maybe we can look into making that more apparent to the user or even increase the amount of mass that is reduced by larger combos. "but it's only made harder by the amount of cubes you can add within a time limit." we actually decrease the speed at which the mass grows depending on how many cubes are on screen. Its not simply a matter of more cubes same time. The game scales with each level. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
Ok I see. I don't think I've ever made it past a whole level to experience the 'game scaling.'
The game looks and feels finished. Yeah, adjusting anything at this point should be just for better targeting your market, which you basically said you were doing.
I am pretty sure we are going to put an easy mode in. We don't want the game to be too easy as we said before but we also don't want players to get frustrated. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
Well, I tell you what. I had way more fun with the new casual mode. maybe I'm just bad at these games but being able to get somewhere makes the whole experience way more satisfying.
Im glad to hear it! It's not that you are bad, the game is hard Thanks tyson, just what we wanted to hear. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
I'm typing up a report of my (and my gf's) feedback for the first beta. Should have it emailed soon.
Haven't played the new version yet
Like this giant fish in a bear suit. He would be horrible. Look at him go!!
yeah we tweaked it, the goal of that game mode is to get the highest score you can. But I think we may have nerfed it too much Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
Haven't tried the new sabotage mode yet but the casual mode seems a little bit on the easy side. I may just be awesome though. Have you had any new players try the new difficulty levels or only people who have played before?[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
Yeah you should be playing normal mode, and yes we have The difficulty seems pretty balanced right now. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
When it's released, will there be any way for me to test it in Linux after you apply your anti-pirating stuff? I hear that's when Wine has trouble emulating windows...
If we go steam exclusive you might have a problem. Unless you can emulate steam.
But I think we're going to have a non-steam version available from our site. Which if you were able to run it before, you will be able to run it then. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
Yeah there are more where that came from. Rock paper shotgun, Eurogamer etc etc Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
Don't worry we are aware of what is and isn't in our contract and have fulfilled our responsibilities accordingly. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
If there were a problem, the tort could be on grounds beyond what's written, or implied, in the contract. I'm no lawyer, obviously, so I can only hope nothing bad does happen.
Hey dude's congrats on the reviews, all your hard work has paid off it seems. I've played the demo and i have to say that i dont often play these types of games, but this one got me hooked. Very nice work dudes, hope it makes you rich
