i'm thinking of making my portfolio reel somewhat interactive, and i want to be able to create a custom DVD menu with a picture like below, and when the user clicks on a certain part of the pic, say, the printer, it should then act as a link to the printer render, which would include a short description of how the printer was created, etc..... basically, instead of normal text and buttons serving as links, i want to be able to use the pic itself.....
is that possible? i've tried searching online.....i currently have Nero Vision and Pinnacle Studio.... but if any other software has that capability, i'll get that

managed to come up with a very involved solution.... i cut the printer from the pic into a separate file, reduced the opacity to something like 10%, and saved it to png.... then i brought that image into pinnacle studio as a custom button.... don't know any simpler way though

It's a great idea for a reel. I have know idea how you'd do it though. If your way works I'd say go for it.

I wanted to do the same thing a while ago, but I never thought of doing what you did.
Sounds like a good solution, if it works well and looks good.

If you could get the printer to print the content and have it fly up to full screen. That would be great as a transition!

haha yeah that would be great but what would the other objects do for their transitions?
and yeah i've got it to work to an extent, but there is one basic problem which i don't think i can overcome....
for example... i can define the cpu-cabinet as a custom button, but what is actually used as the area for the button's activation is the bounding box of the image.... so for the curtain, even though i cut out the visible parts of the curtain and pasted them to a separate image (to use as a button), the bounding box of that image overlaps the monitor, cpu-cabinet and parts of the router as well.... so the only solution to that is use only the part of the curtain which does not overlap.....
so in that case if you click on the part of the curtain which is in between the cabinet and the monitor, nothing will happen....
that boils down to the fact that all pictures are rectangular....sigh....can't change that! thinking.gif
