Hey everyone!

I'm working through a project at the moment which involves a room. I'm okay with the rest of it but I'm having problems with creating door frames and window sills. How would I go about creating something like the below picture illustrates? I basically want to cut holes and hack my walls about, so what's the easiest way to go about doing this in 3DS Max?

Agreed. The only other method would be to convert your object to an editable poly and bridge the selected polys for your door way, but that may not work if you need the bottom open. Bridging is best for making clean holes and works best if your going to use a smoothing modifier.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the tips so far. Basically, I just need a big enough hole for it to look right when a camera goes through the doorway and then pans across to a photo frame on the wall.

I'm thinking of doing the window a different way now since it does not need to animate - just add a rectangle and add a texture of a window frame to it.

Thanks again for the suggestions so far. I'm sure it will help me with future projects too smile.gif.

Another way is to use aec walls and use edge snap to place
Aec doors or windows into the walls. The holes are cut automatically.
Can't say I use it much but it is pretty fast and you can resize and
Move the doors/windows around and the holes in the walls update
Accordingly. There's a procedure in the max help entitled
To create and place a window or door in a wall:
