Considering how many of us are adelaideans - art school and mad grads - is anyone interested in perhaps putting together some sort of group exhibition? ...suggestions? ideas? i've never exhibited before so i'm just floating the idea since there seems to be plenty of talented, like-minded people out there!

Sounds like a good idea if someone could organize it. If anyone needs prints made up I can facilitate large format.

oh wow awesome! good to see you guys are keen! havent really seen many of the local smaller galleries tbh - but what would be really cool would be a venue kinda abandoned warehousey.... contrasting the cutting edge stuff we do with the actual space, since most of it would be hung/projected anyway.... somewhere with character!

I know felt space is pretty open to new crazy stuff, I have no idea what other galleries are like. I'm e-mailing a few peeps now to try and find out whats available

This is a great idea. Can non DAF people be invovled? I know a few people who may be keen to show off thier work.

Another point to discuss is cost. With venue hire, printing, framing etc, this could potentially be pretty costly.

If we organised this well, we could be in time for the 1st june cutoff date for the SALA festival. depending on how many of us would like to contribute it costs between $160 and $260 for a venue. details can be found here [Link to www.salainc.com.au]

The only extra cost other than hanging/framing (which is up to the individual artists) is marketing such as flyers, etc. even then SALA publishes a program which has the exhibition and an image+description next to it.

A list of available venues for the festival can be found here [Link to www.salainc.com.au]

oh fuckin yessss. you rock. I recon we should get on top of it eh? Is that cost for the venue or the inclusion in the sala program? maybe if each artist paid $10 to show their work in the show... that way if theres enough it covers all costs. any thoughts anyone?

its both, as far as i know. the extra costs would be hanging/printing and any marketing costs....

That's probably cheaper than I thought. I guess the more people we get involved the cheaper it will be. I think the printing and framing might be most of the cost. And promotion.

yeah certainly my thinking. I believ though that some spaces give you some help with advertizing and such. Framing could be the responsibility of the artist unless DAF wanted everyone to have certain sized images and such and everyone framed in the same frames for a consistent look to the exhibition

yeah you shoudl be able to hire them at MRC ... my other half's a member there and can get it a bit cheaper than walk ins, also i thought if warehousey is out, then what about EAF? Andy P is exhibiting there (i think) i can ask him on friday, Gee, Anthea, what you guys think? Cos im deifnitely keen to get this going, and if we dont make it for SALA we can try for grant funding thru Helpmann or Arts Access?

I've seen plenty of bands at Jive and it's a good venue, not sure how it would work as a gallery though. Carclew is good though.

well we could do bands/performance as well as exhibition to get more ppl in ... and have upstairs jive as the exhibition space, we could try and organise something with 20/20 music or some other local promoters (im mates with the 20/20 ppl) and/or bring in the bellydancing/cabaret/funk chicks in for entertainment too, or just keep it small and personal in a quieter, commercial gallery.

I'd probably prefer to keep it smaller at this stage, just to make organising it a bit easier.

Okay, can i put a vote in here for those interested to add me to either msn or we organise a chat one night here at the forum so that we can deligate some tasks and work out the logistics of all this. it would have to be really soon so we can try and make it for sala.

my msn is j.w.i@hotmail.com
