Here's my first attempt at modeling in a long time. The chairs were done quite hastily, but the table took awhile (probably longer than it should have). It's modeled after the set i have in my house.

From what I can see the table looks good. Are you going to continue and do the whole room, give it some good lighting and all?

modeling looks good, try to continue, and add a room around it, some windows and some lighting.

Scenes look always like this in the beginning. Toony, ugly and odd. But, those models you built already look solid and very correct so yes, I'd also say, continue and light the hell into this room smile.gif hehe. Good job so far, I'd love to see more furniture and lighting in the end.

Keeep it up!!

I've never really been much for scene modeling, but I might give it a try. Lighting is probably my weakest area.

The model is fine, what you need to focus on is lighting and textures. If you need help with that then ask! lol smile.gif

Yes, yes, please ask if you have any questions regarding realistic lighting. You could also try to look at my tutorial posted here at DAF. it might help you. otherwise, there are loads of good quality members that know how things go with lighting smile.gif

alright. I'm off from classes until tuesday, so maybe I'll try to finish the scene over the weekend. I'll just totally model my real dining room.

also, could you just post a link to the tutorial?
thanks.

Those models are coming along nicely. When you're lighting try to think about where the lights would be in really life and place your scene lights there. The one you've got over the table is way too low. For more realism make sure decay is set to inverse square.

It's looking better. What sort of light is the main light above the table?

that one was a regular omni. I downloaded Vray and tried to use those lights, but they've given me a significant amount of trouble. Sometimes the light doesn't show up in the render. Sometimes it's too dark and sometimes it's way too light and the rendering takes a long time.

here's my latest render. it's the best lighting i've been able to get so far with Vray. It uses a sphere with a 100 radius and a 20 multiplier. It gives too much light on the table and not enough anywhere else.

EDIT: latest render added

i took quick look and then decided to do some more modeling before i get back to lighting. The last thing i was working on last weekend was a good clear plastic texture, but haven't been able to come up with a good one.

The IOR of plastic is 1.460.

Use a Vray material.

Set reflect and refract to 100% white, turn fresnel reflections on and set the IOR.
