On my way to grandeur (hehehehe ^^) I've stumbled on this name and one of his tutorials (a reductive term to me): Riven Phoenix.

Watched a short demo and couldnt resist, I've bought a tute on drawing the human figure "from the mind". Guys, it's gonna be tough!! Consists of about 230 video tutorials (about 43 hours) that guide you "step-by-step within each step"....it's so complete and clear and redundant, at least til the 15th lesson, that ANYBODY could learn to draw the human figure, even with no experience at all (just like me ^^').
It's gonna take you by the hand and guide you all the way up, from the basic general structure up to the deepest scheme of muscles like face's and hands' ones.

Ok, now you're free to tell me I'm a stupid to buy something prolly I could get for free, but believe me, I doubt there's something this complete and great around that you dont have to pay for, and this one costs "only" (very few to me) 45$.

Will I be constant enough to follow the whole course up to the end? My "proud heart" says yes!! ^o^

Wish me strength of will!!!!!!!! >o<

I'll take a guess and say billy mays is some kind of TV sales man in America?
the videos look pretty interesting and 45 dollars is pretty cheap for 43 hours of video, what ever works for you man. we all learn in different ways for me I learn most of my software skills from video training but it was exercising observation skills that improved my drawing skill. just loads and loads of practice drawing your family or if you can convince your girlfriend to pose for you all the better. when you study something and really observe it. not trace it or use any methods to reproduce it you find yourself later, when designing an alien or modeling in 3d that you instinctively invent anatomically logical designs which somehow seem more convincing. say you drew a whole bunch of dinosaurs some dogs and birds and then went and tried to design a dragon from your mind I'd wager it would be significantly cooler than the one you drew from your memory of what a dragon should look like.

Thats not to say that learning anatomy theory isnt important too. and learning all the tricks for knowing you have the correct proportions. things like knowing that eyes are generally one eye width apart. or that a hand is roughly the size of the face. Ive been planning to do some study into anatomy from a medical perspective. learn how all the muscles go together etc but damn is that stuff hard to remember. I assume those videos are packed with those kind of tips. feel free to post any really usefull gems from those 43 hours of info man.

I will, if I'll find them particularly interesting.

Anyway it's not just about tricks and schemes. It starts from what you've probably seen in the first demo video, which sets the "basic" proportions, but that's just the starting point: like drawing a circle to end with a tire (not really the same thing, when finished).

After the first 10 lessons I'm good enough to draw a proportioned skull from side view. I'll soon be able to draw it frontally and then 3/4. Obviously these are just schemes to "understand" the shapes, but I've glanced at some videos ahead and it's gonna be way more realistic portray of a head (bone/muscles/skin).

Heck, now I sound like a damn tv ad!!

Last one: the best thing is that I "trust" the path and I dont doubt about any step as the aim is clear and each "pillar" is solid enough. Too poetic?

I'm not sure I'd have the attention span to last 43 hours, even if it took me a few months. Also, finding the time would be difficult. Good luck to you though, hopefully it's worth it. We're all looking forward to seeign what you post smile.gif
