Been watching them lately, so a DB themed wallpaper was in order.

See if you can guess how I made the material for the balls.

3Ds Max 8 / Vray 1.48

Ok, I'm guessing it's a vray material, though it looks a bit like there's a bit of vray light material as well. Maybe a blend of a glossy reflective vray material and a vray light material with a falloff map in the mix amount slot?

You're the closest. But it is simpler than that.

Vray material 100% reflect / refract.

Fresnel reflections, unlink the IOR.

Set refraction IOR to 1.0, reflection IOR to 1.6.

Add some fog colour.

Easy! haha. Such a hack but it looks sweet as.

Have you done a bit of post on it? Looks like there's a bit of a soft glow on it. On another note, I think we have discovered the mystery of who slayed Spitfire's dragon. Clearly it was varnishedotter on a quest to harvest it's balls to sell on the black market.

No post at all. Straight from max. Heres what the mat looks like (see image).

And it wasn't me who cut of the dragons balls.

Well where did you get the dragon balls from then? Great material BTW. Though I think if you have 100% reflect and refract the diffuse colour doesn't have any bearing at all on the final colour. I think it's entirely based on the fog colour.

Yeah I know that, but if I turn refract off for test renders I like to have some resemblance of colour smile.gif

And the dragon balls I have are far superior... on the moon...

Thanks man! You should crop it to your resolution in photoshop so that it doesn't stretch.
