hi there,

I have a lighting issue. In my scene the shadow looks edgy... I don't know why, I was playing around with the Dens- and Bias-setting but nothing helped. I also put the lights to different positions but nothing solved the problem.

And one more thing: When you look at the ground you see a "white box" being reflected by the ground. The ground has a 37% raytrace reflection but in my scene is not such a box... When I render the scene from aboce the box is gone and when I turn off the reflection then the box is gone too. I don't know where this box-reflection comes from... If all else fails I would simply turn off the reflection but actually I would like to keep it.

I hope you can help me.

First things first... What type of light are you using? What type of shadows are you using....(ie.. Shadow maps, Raytraced, etc). What renderer?(Scanline or Mental Ray)

The reflection look like the top of your wall behind your character.

If you can take a snap shot of your setting in the modify panel, I bet we can help pretty quick.

Thanks for your quick answer. Im Using Omni-Light and "ShadowMap" - what ever that means.. My renderer is Default Scanline Renderer... heres the screenshot:

As you can see in the scene, the wall has no roof. There is nothing that could be reflected, that is it, what confuses me.

With the angle of the camera that you are renders.. You are seeing the top edge of your back wall. Try making your curved plane larger if you are going to use the same angle to capture nothing but your wall in the reflection.

As for the shadows... If you want to use Shadow map.. Try adjusting your size under the "Shadow Map Params" rollout.. A higher number will give you sharper edges and a lower number will give you softer edges. If all else fails.. Try rendering using "Raytraced Shadows"

Here is my example.. Shadow map casted on the at a size of 1024. Raytraced Shadows casted on the right.

You also note in my image that I set the scene up much like yours with the same result in the reflection. If this doesn't work, you might try looking at your character scale.

Ok,

I solved the shadow-problem by unsing "Area Shadows", I still had the same problem with raytraced Shadows and playing around the shadow size helped a little.. but not enough after all.

I also tried to get this strange reflection away by making the wall higher and bending it backwards but nothing helped. Eventually I took the reflection map out entirely.

Thanks for your help, Spitfire smile.gif Here's my final result.
