Hi Everyone!

Just a quick question. When I export any model and import them into another scene (3D Studio Max), all the colors I have assigned to my model no longer displays, and every object turns grey (sticks to one color). For some reason, when importing my model, I can't even change the color of my objects!

Could anybody give me advice?

Thanks in advance

Unless you are exporting the mesh for use in another program, I would just use the merge command from the file menu. I'll often use the save selected command also to save out single objects like cameras from a scene into a new max file ready to be merged into other scenes.
If you are using obj or other model formats you need to re-apply the materials to the mesh. You can merge materials from other scenes in the material editor or you can save out material libraries also.

The problem consists when I merge my models using a lower version 3D Studio Max.....Unfortunately, in the Uni I am enrolled with has 3Dsmx 8, and I can't load my saved files on there (or merge), unless I import them (.3ds file).

And as I stated before, when I do import my models (obviously had to export them before hand), I cannot edit them such as changing the color from the annoying default (which is grey). Is there anyway around this? its kinda annoying that my Uni has not installed the latest version.

I think the only way you will get this to work is to "find" a copy of Max 8 from somewhere. I still use Max 8 and have no problems with it.

Well, since the version in Uni is 3D studio Max 8, and the one I use at home is 9, there are some compatability issues (when loading a model from 9 on 8). So overall, I managed to get by the problem.....by simply staying late hours in Uni to get it complete lol.

Well, I almost finished the project, will be looking forward to the stuff that will be taught in the second year of uni. First year is just the basics...
