Okay... so what do i do after i make the uvw map??
i mean... how do i assign the material??
when i click that assign material button, nothing happens... the bitmap just won't show
i made it in the diffuse color thing ( the material ) and nothing happens...

If you want it to show up in the viewport, click the checkered blue and white cube in the material editor.

as Steve said, you need to check the "show map in viewport" button in the material editor.
But if you plan on texture it with procedural materials (no bitmaps) than you don't need to worry about uvw.
And if you plan on texture it with a bitmap image than you'll need an uvw, it really depends on what kind of shape is it, for box, sphere and other primitive shaped objects a simple uvw map modifier will suffice, for something a bit more complex you'll have to unwrap your model with uvw unwrap modifier.
