2. Their size is too low?

whats wrong with it and the model isnt final, still working onthe grills etc lol

hehe thanx mate, well I found out that the reference I used for the uber complex model (lol) is already been used before to make it into a 3d scene so I don't feel like continuing it frown.gif I'm thinking of going into more complexity in a whole new model altogether lol: something like [Link to lh5.ggpht.com] disbelief.gif

if you do have those problems again, mess around with MR settings, and in particular, the shadow map settings (the sample range and size)

Honestly saying, MR is amazingly easy and great for doing interiors, arch&design mats are god's gift grin.gif but i find it a bit to simple for doing exteriors, vray kick's MR ass at GI and speed.

ah, I always thought the other way around, thought MR is pretty hard then its competetors lol.. A&D are indeed kewl grin.gif I used it for the wooden are in between the room in this one, I have yet to come across a good tutorial for vray, I saw one in the tut section, guess im gonna try it now..
and does every studio use vray? because I bet every studio can use mr cuz its free, thinking ahead, what if i don't get a job where they have vray stare.gif

Best advantage of Vray is that you can specify and change almost every aspect of your render settings. And i don't believe that every studio uses vray, probably most of smaller studios use vray in combination with mental ray, they are both great render's and you wont regret learning them.

Ah, I was gonna start Vray at first, but then got told by a friend to start with brazil and then move to MR, though I never started Brazil, but got stuck with Mr.. guess ill try vray grin.gif

Ah, me teachers insist on sticking to manual lighting though, that way i'll understand better.. they say people use Vray cuz its easy and bla bla, and the outcomes are pretty generic too.. donno lol guess ill stick to MR, though they say use default one lmfao

nah i don't think so, lighting is crucial to every scene, in vray you won't get anything exceptional by just 2-3 clicks, it's the same deal as with all other renders, except maxwell, (that's something special), you have to light your scene, and know how to use lights.
I'm only saying that vray is very user friendly when you learn it a bit and also very fast.
It's a big plus in learning and knowing more than one render engine, and mental ray and vray are definitely worth it.

what you're teachers are saying is that learning how to light in a standard 3d renderer is great training for more advanced lighting techniques. If you just started with vray and turned on the skylight you can light a scene with just one spotlight and get a pretty nice look but when you light scenes you have to think about things like a DOP for a film. using many lights to achieve things like rim light and bouncing light into places to serve the composition of the image. If you grew into 3d with the scanline renderer you have a basis for that technique because nothing is for free with scanline. Plus its always good to know how to render a scene without GI for speed reasons. you arent always going to have the luxury of time when you are on a deadline.

I agree with Altopais. Lightening your scene is different everytime you build one. It takes some time to figure out what does what and how things react to eachother. but when you find your way in Vray controls there shouldn't be a big problem. It might be time consuming to get that right glimpse of light you want, but the result is a perfect render of course.

I love practicing around in Vray with lightning, and i think your scene looks good indeed.
