OK I'm following an online tutorial as to how to make some basic hands, this one:

[Link to tutorialagent.com]

Now I've followed it, but I don't understand the FFD tool. I've got my hand at its current stage, and used the FFD tool to create an orange box, which I then scaled to fit the shape of the hand. However, moving any vertices on the FFD isnt affecting the hand, nor the other way around.

I've never used FFD before and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Any idea whats going on? This tutorials not very user friendly but I'm terrible at character modelling.

You don't really need to use a free form deformer. just use soft selection on vertex selections to shape the hand.
FFDs are usefull sometimes but in a case like this with such a low res mesh its overkill.

I have to agree with everything posted above.
But to solve your problem with the FFD, you probably had an polygon, vertex, edge or any of those selections selected (not in the viewport but in the command panel at the top) and then you added an FFD modifier on that selection, that's why you don't edit anything, because your ffd is only applying to that selection you have selected. To solve ti, delete the ffd modifier and deselect everything and then add an ffd to the model.

To much "selections" in this post haha grin.gif

Thanks - I went with a different tutorial as Jamie said. I didnt actually use the one he posted though - it looked amazing but was a bit more realistic than I needed smile.gif
