figaro pho [Link to www.abc.net.au] the cartoon i worked on a year and a half ago won two afi's over the weekend. the award for best childrens tv animation and the award for creative excellence. yay i'm pretty chuffed about this.

and it's a story that might bore you, but you don't have to listen, because I always knew it was going to be like that.

Wow man. You can be really proud of that achievement. just dont let the dudes at Mad academy find out or you'll end up being their new marketing juggernaut without even knowing about it. seriously dude that is an excellent achievement. what a credit to have on you're CV huh? congrats.

really? check their website in a few days and they will almost certainly have an article with you as their star pupil as if everything you've achieved was due to them. Would you say you learnt a fair amount from the course or was it more a case of things developing afterwards in your own time? I'm guessing there was some gain from doing the course but I know how much you learn from working hard on a reel and even more on the job.

yeah i will.

i would say i learnt a great deal from the course, but what was really great about it was time to focus and work solidly with feedback from you and the others there. I probably did learn just as much if not more after the course when i was making my reel(s). a lot of that was due to reading the animators survival kit and the illusion of life and again working solidly but now with the goal of getting a job. but what i learnt then was nothing compared to what i learnt when i actually got a job

Yeah I found that too when I studied. I did a TAFE course years ago that wasnt very focused on 3d but it still gave me time and a feeling of motivation to produce work. I also just did a short Maya course recently as I have mentioned and although it was only 5 days the kick start it gives you is very tangible. To be honest when you were in the class I saw you expanding on your modelling skills and your character design was awesome but I didnt really think you were so into the animation side of things, Whats you're next step after this, are you working on a new project yet?.

i'm not sure what prompted me to pursue animation after focusing for so long on modeling and texturing. whatever it was it worked out and i can do a bit of everything as i need too. sometimes i get frustrated focusing on animation for so long that a change is nice.

i am still working for the luke, the guy behind figaro and am currently working on a short film followed by another series sometime next year.

Congratulations Matt, that's really great news. "Award winning animator" is a good title to go in front of your name when you introduce yourself.
