I'm facing a very serious problem in my 3ds max work....need help...!
suppose if i want to make a glass window with the corners of the window and glass in between .... i made a box, converted it to edit poly , gave it an inset amt. & then detached the inseted polygon , then i gave the detached polygon glass effect....and i deleted the original polygon....this all is okay..but then when i delete the polygon ....how to fill the borders...???? i'll upload the images for easy understanding....!

You could try doing this:

Make the box that you are going to use as the frame.

Punch the middle out with a boolean operation.

Make a second box that will be your glass.

Position objects accordingly.

yaa...thanx, this option i already know but the problem in boolean operation is that u can't make changes once u apply boolean.....that's the drawback of boolean.

You can as a Boolean Op will be in your modifier stack. All you have to do is convert to Editable Poly again. I use this all the time.

Theres a good tip for booleans in the Tutorial section of the forum, take a look at it.

You could also try using the multi/subobject material and just use different material IDs on the glass pane and the frame. Then you won't have to delete any polygons.
