This guy is a regular contributer to 3d world magazine and has written a few books. There's no glass tutorial there but it's a good resource for doing things in max without plugins.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
make a material with falloff map in the diffuse and the opacity. set the shader to anisotropic
with high glossyness. put a raytrace map in the reflection 80% approx. put a hdr or some sort of reflection map in the environment. instance it to the material editor and set to spherical environment. use raytrace shadows to get transparent shadows for the glass.
Atran, Steve and Tyson tnx so much, you all realy helped me....
and Tyson your formula worked like magic, but there is somthing i didnt understad:
"instance it to the material editor and set to spherical environment."
what do you mean?
and also , how do i apply background to the render with making plane in the model?
when you use an image in the environment map slot:
rendering>environment>environment map it will render this image in the background and it will also be reflected in raytraced objects. by default the image will render facing the screen which is fine if you want a sunset or hills off in the distance but for reflection you want the image stretched around like the inside of a sphere. If you drag the map from the environment slot to a free slot on the material editor it will give you the option to use an instance or a copy. choose instance and then in the coordinates roll-out change from texture to environ, set the mapping to spherical instead of screen. If you want a background image as well as your reflection map you will need to make a plane behind your scene and apply the image to the plane, sometimes you may need to bend the plane a bit so you can move the camera and not see the edges of your background image.
Also, right click on the plane and go to object properties and uncheck the cast and receive shadows boxes. Otherwise you might have some unwanted shadows.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
