Hey all,
Wondering and looking for a good website with some really good re-usable standard materials.
Just a library that you can pull from when roughing out renders.

Ive found a few reading through different 3d forums. but this might be a good project for all us forum members. maybe we could all submit our finest materials complete with texture maps etc.. and then we could sort out the very best of them into a library for everyone to use. one standard max (no plugins) one vray perhaps? maybe seperated into a few sub categories like materials that are completely procedural and bitmap based etc... What do you think?
We had something in the works for this, a resources library type thing, I'm not sure if its going ahead in v3 though... I think there were some issues and it got postponed to v3.5Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
Hey Tyson,
It is a good idea! They come in very handy when you just need to do something really quickly. Like I am busy working on concept art for a new game we're developing and after doing a few concepts in PS, its time to knock some out in Max... a little library would be awesome!!
Hehe, so we wait until v3.5... or just start up a little thread and post links?!?
So far my searches for Free .mat files is not going well. I might start something on my blog if I can find some quality .mat files!

Well I suggest if people want to email me with a zip file containing a .mat and all the textures associated with bitmap based materials or a max file with the materials applied to spheres then I'd be happy to go through them and choose the best ones for the library add some of my own then save out a .mat file and textures zip for everyone to download. It may take me a while though cos I have a bit of work on at the moment.
I suggest we create things like.
alphalt, cement, leaves(with transparency), bricks, procedural terrains, standard max glass, chrome, rusty metal etc.
and a vray one with vray glass, carpaint, glossy plastic, metal, etc.
I've been meaning to make a few of these for work anyway so I may be able to fit it into my work day here and there.
Maybe there should be some sort of common units scale that we create the materials in so various maps procedural maps like noise etc.. have values that correlate. lets say we work in cm for both display and system units. Anyone have anything to add or
suggest on this idea? my email is tysontelliott@yahoo.com
