Hi all.

I haven't used 3D studio max since my university days 10years ago!! i bet it's changed since then, and seeing as i've fogotten how to use it. i'll be starting fro scratch again.

well now i like to do underwater videography and to really liven up some of my vids i'd love to get some 3D animation through them.

there's probably a steep learning curve and i'm up for the challenge. if anyone knows of any other great resources to get to grips with the basics then i'd love to know them.

regards to all here.

Cool man, great to meet you. The Max help files have tutes that will get you started and from that you should be able to start doing what you want to do. Then if you have any hurdles to overcome let us know and we'd be glad to help out.

Welcome to the board. What sort of stuff were you thinking of adding to your videos?

+Steve, good question, as i'm not positively sure at the moment, it really depends how i get my head back into 3D modelling.

at the moment i've got this cool logo that i'm starting to use at the beginning of my 5min sequences (for you tube!!) and i think i want to make it 3D. with that modelled i might start to think about sinking it in water (a theme with my diving vids!) but i guess i'd also quite like to get back into 3D modelling.

as when i did it for my module at uni, it totally engrossed me. i'm now a project eng. in the wind energy industry and am re-starting to use autocad and other tools. thought 3Dmax would bring a little balance to my serious working life!!

It's good that you can find time to do it. Must be a pretty full on job being a project engineer.

yeah, i don't tend to have to much time on my hands for all my hobies but i try!

fotunately i've been holed up in a hotel in pakistan for the last few days and have had some time to go through many of the 'introduction to modelling' tutorials in max...

i'm still boggled and amazed by what is possible with max and with all the different ways to acheive the same thing.

i've a bit of advise to ask, but i think i'll ask it of the other forum.

cheers for the warm welcome tho.
