How does this one look? I just worked on it for the last 20 minutes. My goal is to eventually animate it, but i don't know how to make animations in 3ds max.
Basic animation tutorial: Press the autokey button, drag the timeslider to frame 20 and rotate your turret 45 degrees. Turn off autokey, scrub to frame 0 and press play to see animation.[Link to www.3dprevis.com]
how come the hatch, antenna, and the guns start moving at the start of the animation instead of the frame that they're supposed to start at (when the turret stops it's ascent)?
Have you ever tried "Linking" objects? You'll use it alot when animating. I found a neat little video tutorial that shows you, but it looks like you would be better off linking all of your items to the main body of the turrent and then animate those objects when the turrent reaches it's stop position. It will keep you from having to animate every item.
I would just group them then animate the group controller. But I am le slack. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
i would do the same...one problem though...i don't know how! it's my first 3d animation. all my others are done in fireworks or as i used to make them, in powerpoint.
Dave
oops! i was talking about linking, not grouping!
do you mean that i should make them a group and then lets say...40 frames in, i should break up the group and animate them separately?
Dave
Right I see what youre doin now. Grouping wont work.
You proabably need to insert an extra key before the frame you want them to start, so that it holds its position until that point, then starts to move. If that makes sense. Please support us and post a [Link to www.digitalartsfront.com] on your website.
my problem is getting one thing to stop before another begins. do you guys know how to make it that something starts moving at a certain point and end at a certain point instead of just determining the end point?
Dave
with the barrels comming out of the "gun" a little trick I've used before is to set the material in the animation to clear/see-thru/invisible, them when they are comming out you can add the color/texture back so they come out and texture themselves. not sure if this is the easiest way but it works for me! hehe
