My name is Chris Garrard, I'm a free lance sculptor and creature designer. I am also a frustrated film maker and ex Super 8 film animator, with experience in 2D and 3D model animation.
I tried to put my animation in the past but it keeps learing its head. So I have decided to upgrade my PC and get a copy of 3DSMax 9 and try my hand at computer animation. I am awaiting delivery of The 3DS MAX 9 Bible, and can't wait to begin the tutorials.

I feel slightly daunted, but I will succeed. Thanks for reading. All the Best to you all.

Welcome. You'll find that 3d animation is a lot more expensive and less messy than sculpting. Hopefully it'll be as fun.

Hi Matt and Steve,

I hope you can me help here. I've bought the 3DSMax 9 bible, and I 'm working through the Quick start, Animating a dancing Moose section, but I keep hitting a barrier,
I'll explain, I reach section 4 in the Modeling the character section, try to maximise the front viewport using the Max viewport toggle button, and the four viewports go white, and nothing like th example on page 6 ( Fig QS.2 ) and I can't find the control for viewport title, tghat would enable me to right click and select smooth & highlights option. What am I doing wrong, can either of you help ??????

I normally select the viewport I want to work in and hit "Alt+w".

Then you still should have your viewport options in the top left.

Try that, if it doesn't work, it may be an issue with your interface options or DX/GL settings.
