ok this doesn't really have a topic that if fits into so i put it here:

You can help cure cancer by contributing your idle processor to help fold proteins. It takes about 5 min to set up. If you visit[Link to folding.stanford.edu]
you will be able to read up on it and see the progress they have done. Standford is a very well known college in the US. They are sponsered by google and other various groups.

I have created a group called 3d Artists and I thought that it would be a good idea to try and get some recruiters. If we got enough then we might get some cool recognition. All our PC's kick derriere. No way you need all that processing power all the time. Most of the people who are now on the team are from maxforums.org. Hence the tag [MF]

When you setting up the program put it into its own folder because it will create sub files to store work completed and stats. Also use team ID number 107579.

You could create your own tag so people know who is from where and use your username from here but lead it with something like: .:3DMF:. or {3dMF} this isn't necessary but it would be cool to find out who is from where. this isn't a contest to see which forum does better its a joint effort to help the medical world.

Seriously consider it.

Seems like a good idea, just got a few questions:
So after we download the software, what happens then? Is it s simple matter of letting it run in the background while we do stuff or does it consume significant resources? Are there certain times we have to leave it running for or can we turn it on and off as we like.

Well there are many versions of the software. I can't remember which one i downloaded except it wasn't the one with a GUI. So with mine I can tell it when i want it to run. and close it and it will save where it was and continue later. which is why you want to put it in a folder because it has to save the data somewhere. and i believe with all of them you can go into the advanced settings and tell it what percentage of your CPU you want it to use. I have a quad core so i'm fine with maxing out 3 cores and then keeping the 4th for other stuff. I can even play a game and have no problems.

Another thing if you have a PS3 you can fold on it. And I very strongly recomend it. My friend is using a PS3 and folding one WU at a time and beating me with me folding 3 at a time on a 2.4 ghz quad core. And he started later then me. So if you want points fast you can download the PS3 client from the site.
