I'm completely new to 3DS Max. I have some self-made seamless tiles saved on my computer. They are all 512x512 pixels, saved in JPEG format. I am trying to learn how to apply one of these textures to a simple flat plane object. I got as far as selecting the face of the plane, and making it an editable poly. I can only find pre-loaded textures using the Material Editor, and I can't find any "Browse..." functions that allow me to load my own.

How do I get my own textures that are saved on my computer to show up in the program? And once that's done, how do I apply the texture to the object I have selected??

Thank you in advance.

open the material editor (m) pick a material. go to its diffuse slot and click the button. browse to the "bitmap" option. choose bitmap and browse for an image. when you can see the image on the material you can drag and drop it onto the object. or select the object and press the "assign material to selection utton" . If you cant see the texture yet press the "show map in viewport" button in the material editor.
