Make a spline, this will be the edge of the top of the open crisp packet. Arrange the vertices as best you can. Use the picture above to help you. After you've completed the spline, convert to editable poly. Select border option and cap. Now select the polygon (there should only be 1 polygon at this stage). Now use bevel and extrude to get the shape of the crisp packet. Be careful with it, but also be patient. It will be a little tricky, but I think you will get there. Hope this helps!
You could also mess about with the ripple modifier after you have the shape. Never used it, but could work.
